Events

Olympic Distance: 1500m Swim, 40 Km bike, 10 Km run.

Sprint Distance: 700m Swim, 27 Km bike, 5 Km run.

Divisions

Age Group

The minimum age to participate in this event is 14.

Open

The open division is exists for the fastest participants. The idea is to let the pros and elite age groupers compete against each other, regardless of age, and to therefore make the age group waves a little more friendly. The divison is open to men who have completed a full olympic distance triathlon in under 2:10, and to women who have completed an olympic in under 2:20. Please email info@highfiveevents.com to request to be placed in the open division.

Olympic Relay

The Relay division is available to 3 person teams in the Olympic Distance event. Relay teams will be issued one timing chip which they will pass from teammate to teammate. Relay teams must come to the Expo together to pick up their packets and each team members must have a valid USAT license. Relays are available in the male, female, and co-ed categories.

Prize Purse

A $5000 prize purse available to participants in the open wave. Pros and Age Groupers may compete for the prize purse, but they must participate in the open wave. USAT Age Group rules will be enforced. The breakdown is as follows:

1st = $1200
2nd = $700
3rd = $300
4th = $200
5th = $99.99

Awards

Olympic Distance

Awards to the top 10 overall males and females, and overall masters male & female. Awards will also be presented to the top 3 male and female in each age group, starting at 19 & Under and going to 65+ in 5 year increments.

Olympic Distance Relay

Awards to the top 3 teams in the male, female, and co-ed categories.

Sprint Distance

Awards to the top male & female overall, and overall masters male & female. Awards will be presented to the top 3 male and female in each age group, starting at 19 & Under and going to 65+ in 5 year increments.

Awards will be presented at the event or may be picked up at Jack and Adam's Bicycles. Awards will not be mailed out.

Packet Pickup

This is a USAT sanctioned event. The following rules must be followed:
  • You will be required to show a photo ID and proof of USAT membership. Those not having proof of USAT membership will be required to purchase a 1-day license. There will not be computers there to print your proof, so please come prepared. USAT memberships will be available for purchase (one-day $10 or annual $39).
  • You must pick up your packet in person during pickup hours. No exceptions.
  • The age group of a participant will be determined by age on Dec. 31 of the event year, not by age on race day. For example, if you turn 25 years old in July of 2009, you will race and be ranked in the 25-29 age group for the entire 2009 season.
  • All youth ages 17 and under are required to be annual USAT members to compete in sanctioned events. The cost of an annual youth membership is $5 per year.
  • Relay teams must come to the Expo together to pick up their packets and each team members must have a valid USAT license.

Bike Check-In

Pre Race Bike Check In is mandatory for all participants. Bike Check In will occur on Sunday at the transition area on Auditorium Shores. Please refer to the Site and Transition Map for details. Your bike must be numbered, and you must be wearing your wristband in order to enter transition.

Bike Check-Out

Bikes will not be allowed out of Transition until the final cyclist has completed the bike course. It is expected that this will be around 10:30 AM. Participants will be allowed back into transition after they finish, but bikes may not be removed from the racks. Please be courteous to your fellow participants.

Finish Line Carnival

Stick around after the event for best post race celebration in triathlon. There will be food, drinks, tasty adult beverages, and live music! We've also partnered with tons of industry and local businesses to provide a great party!

 Stop by the New Belgium Brewery Beer Garden post race for an ice cold one. New Belgium will be serving up pints of their seasonal brews plus the old favorite Fat Tire.

 Advanced Rehab will be providing complimentary athlete care before and after the event. They will have several individuals certified ART, massage therapists, and physical therapists on hand. Look for the Advanced Rehab tent!

 Our friends at Texas Iron will be dishing out free fruit after the race. Stop by their tent for some shade and refreshing fruit.

 Grab a cool and refreshing iced tea from our friends at Sweet Leaf Tea.

 1379, a local store for kids athletic clothing, will be setting up their moonbounce at the finish line of each of the events. So bring out the whole family for a day of fun.

  

Don T. Bonk

Don T. Bonk patrols the last part of the run course. He calls this area the Don T. Bonk Zone. To finish the triathlon you will need to pass through his zone. We know it’s not easy to keep running at the end of a race, when you must pass through the Don T. Bonk zone. So we are going to help you out. Run all the way through the Don T. Bonk zone, and he’ll give you a treat after the race.. You must run. No walking!
