Water Temperature & Quality

Labor Day water temperature is usually around 76-78 degrees, so the swim will likely be wetsuit legal. However, the extreme drought in 2009 caused warm water temperature and a non-wetsuit legal race. LadyBird Lake is controlled and regulated by the City of Austin. Water quality information may be obtained by email from Roger Glick.

Weather Contingency Plan

In the event of foul weather, the start time of this event may be delayed by up to 1 hour. Should the weather conditions be unsafe for the swim, this event will be changed to a duathlon with distances of a 5 Km run, 40 Km bike, and a 5 Km run. The sprint distance will change to a duathlon with distances of a 5 Km run, 27 Km Bike, and a 5 Km run. The duathlon will use the same wave starts as the triathlon. If the weather makes it too dangerous for cycling, the event will become a 5 Km run for all participants
